Vancouver College vs Centennial Centaurs

Fri Nov. 25 at 7:30pm, Burnaby Lakes, Burnaby

The Fanatic spread line:

VC-7 vs Cent+7 O/U 49

Final Score 41-14 for VC. Cent had something going early on shutting down VC on their first drive and scoring a TD chewing up 8 min in the first quarter. Then it was all VC the rest of the way. The difference?? Clearly the VC O-line and D-line completely destroyed Cent's O-line and D-line. Denton, Hurst, Miko and Anderson simply couldn't use their speed, there were no blocks to run behind. In stark contrast, by the time Tapia got his handoffs, the Cent D-line were on their backs, and the linebackers pinched in. Oscar only had the Safeties left to beat. When Cent rushed 10 in the box, VC went to the air with ease. Total domination. VC returns to the Subway Bowl to face WJ Mouat in what is the most anticipated matchup of the year. It's been a while since Centennial has done this well and been this good, next year could be better...

The Centaurs and Fighting Irish renew unpleasantries this weekend in their semi-final game. The Irish obliterated the Centaurs in Week 2 sending the former #1 seed reeling. With that loss fresh in their minds, the Centaurs look for redemption this week. The Centaurs have were sharp last week in their playoff win over Salmon Arm and need to stay that way this weekend. The Irish looked human last week in their win over Terry Fox. The Ravens played the Irish tough for 4 quarters and were within 1 TD in the 4th. The bottom line in this one will come down to turnovers.

VC Offense:The play-calling all season has been conservative, and why not?? Nobody has been able to touch them with the O-line run-blocking the way they have. If they pick up a few TDs, they'll keep it conservative. If they get down early, will see what kind of comeback offense the Irish have in QB Martinka and receivers Henderson and Oliver.

VC Defense:Looked suprisingly vulnerable last weekend vs Terry Fox. In fact, let 40+ points allowed in the last 3 games. The D-line has less push allowing good gains by the Ravens and even got burned a couple of times by Buchannon. Need to play with the same aggression and speed as the first few weeks or the Centaurs could run away with this one.

Centennial Offense:Attack, Attack, Attack. If the Irish Defense has softened up, the Centaurs should be able to rip apart the Irish Defense. Even if the Centaurs are down early, they have the big play offense to comeback. Problem all season long has been the turnovers, drive killers. The Centaurs cannot afford to turnover the ball, the Irish will make them pay for any mistakes.

Centennial Defense:The Irish will score, there's no denying it. But the Centaurs need to prevent the big play, limit Tapia to short gains. The defense will need to hold the Irish to 3 or 4 TDs to allow their offense to win.

After playing both teams, Centennial will win this game. VC's defence is very vanilla. Cent will put up 28+

The only common opponent of these two teams was Terry Fox. Fox scored on a trick play and on a sweep after the VC corner slipped and fell. But when it was time for them to come up big, they did with a sack and a TD. Oh, and if the VC defense is so vanilla, why didn't you beat them???

I find it quite amusing how quiet and calm both this blog and the High School forum are following the most recent defeats. Congrats to both VC and WJM
    should be a great final.

    An interested observer

hey cent is one classy bunch. there what? the ONLY team not to fight because they lost. they had tears in their eyes seeing their season end and congradulating VC the whole time at the end of the game. some teams like stm, notre dame, and others could be as classy as them at least. thank you centennial.

I've watched a lot of the playoff games and haven't seen what you are talking about except for the Salmon Arm win over Notre Dame. Not sure why you say they were the only team not to fight? I didn't see any problems at last weeks double header Salmon Arm & Centennial or VC and Fox. Of course it was hard to see much in the fog.

Dear Fanatic: Why do you think Centennial might even be better next season? The QB and #34 are back but with Denton, Anderson etc. graduating will they really be better?

If they can get their O-line and D-line shored up, and a couple of receivers, I think they'll be #1 contenders.

hey ... Its all about promoting MIKO

  • At 5:27 PM, November 27, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said…

There line has always been there weakness next year they are not gana be top contenders, the only depth they will has is somewhat of a run game that will rely 100% on a.j miko making the big plays. They might have the odd short pass but nothing special.

during the cent/salmon arm game their were definitely a few situations that had to be broken up near the end of the game...standing at field level you could tell

  • At 9:29 AM, November 28, 2005, Anonymous Anonymous said…

the comment about promoting Miko was sarcastic....
Cents team will rely on team work..
AJ is only a part of that team..not 100%.. if that were the case he would have had a better showing in the game against Van college...
This team will rely on Quincy Hurst.. and Clay Miller and Raj Chatha and Victor nunez and Romanowski ans Millar and Tanaka and Destefano and Richard Baxter..
    Get my point....
Centennial has changed it future... they are moving forward.. as a team.. not JUST AJ.
Go Centennial.. we look for great things from your team, not just one certain player...

As far as, the few situations during that salmon arm game... Salmon arm had a few players that dished out a few cheap shots and their tempers flared... We did not look at them as being losers... Just that they played a great year and it was ending for them, emotions were high... No bad feelings...
