Vancouver College Fighting Irish vs Terry Fox Ravens

Sat Nov. 20 at 8:45pm, Mercer Stadium

The Fanatic spread line:

VC-28 vs Fox+28 O/U 35

Final Score 28-14 for VC. Double-header of the "Fog Bowl" as someone left comments below. Watched the first half and it was 14-7. Fox played extremely well, Boomer hit Buchannon on a beauty for about 70 yds for their first score. Were able to run it in between the tackles semi-successfully as well. The Fog was a major factor, without it, Fox could've pulled off the big upset. But as it stood, Tapia used his speed and with the fog was difficult to even find him. As indicated below, the Irish were unimpressive in the win, but nevertheless they move on to face Centennial in the semis. For Fox, they did everything they could but just didn't get the lucky breaks they needed. Buchannon and the rest of the Ravens can focus on basketball now, the Ravens sure could've used him vs Maple Ridge last night at the Maple Ridge Tip-off losing a close one in OT.

Before we completely write off the Ravens who are the biggest underdog of the Quarterfinals here, let's at least feature what they have. A lot was made of Junior QB Boomer Chaube, with even an article in the Province last year as a Sophmore. Chaube has played well, but the star of this show so far this season has been Tyson Buchannon. The star has been making plays on both sides of the ball. As for the Irish, they have by far the best O-line and D-line. They win the battle of the trentches giving their offense the holes to run through and penetration on defense. Unless Boomer can somehow get his pass off to his star receiver, should be another dominating performance by the VC line.

VC Offense: With the huge holes the O-line is creating, it's no wonder Tapia has been running all the way to the record books this season. The passing game could be better, but it's been an afterthought with the way they've been able to run.

Terry Fox Defense: The size is there, but speed is an issue, especially in the box. Pass coverage in the secondary is their strength with Tyson Buchannon back there picking of lazy passes. But they are weak on the ends and are susceptible to the sweep.

Terry Fox Offense: Tyson Buchannon isn't ready to focus on the Basketball season just yet. He wants to keep his Ravens rolling. At 6'2, Buchannon is a big target and QB Boomer Chaube has gotten him the ball a lot so far. Can the big Raven O-line give Boomer enough time to get Buchannon the ball?? We'll soon find out.

VC Defense: Size and speed on the line have stuffed every team so far on the ground. And they've faced some good running teams in Centennial, STM, Fox. Against the Ravens, they Irish will need to rely on a great pass rush and pass coverage to stop the pass. With the offense rolling like it is, 3 TDs allowed would still win the game easily for the Irish.

Great effort from the underdog Terry Fox Team. They played tough and really the game was a 21-14 game. VC got one on the last play on a fumble in the end zone in the fog etc. but really Kudo's to bothe teams for a hard fought battle.

Hey College got a scare last night.Game was 14-7 at half and really T.Fox could have been up. I think their small numbers caught up to them in the second half. Good game though. Don't thin either of these teams are as good as ours(mouat) but Fox gave those college guys the toughest game all year. I thin Centennial will beat College next though.

I agree that the fog helped college more than the Ravens...The run only College team didn't have to try to pick up the ball dropping down through the "pea soup" fog. I thought Fox could have won the game too with a couple of breaks. That long TD pass for the Fox first score was actually Buchannon throwing to the Fox TE on a reverse pass. Goes to show you anything can happen...and almsot did. I agree with the guy who said college is ripe to be upset. Too bad it will be at the hands of those cheaters from Coquitlam. I wonder how many "hey they just moved" players they will get from Surrey or whereever next season.

You know that what I'm saying is true. If you feel good about selling your soul and cheating..I feel sorry for you. It is an insult to the great game of football. Is bringing in "ringers" from Cloverdale or Surrey year after year morally right? Or is your philosophy like Al Davis of the Raiders "just win baby"...It's too bad that a great group of athletes who are legit have to be tarnished because of a few cheaters brought in and a few "suspect" decisions made during the strike. Even if they win the Centaurs and those scorpions will be remembered as the "yeah but" group who cheated and lied there way to success. Shameful really.
