Week 1 in Review

The gates opened and the people flooded in (some places at least) to stadiums across the province ushering in the new 2005 season.

The first games of the season saw AAA South Delta squeak out a victory in 2OT against AA Hugh Boyd in Richmond. At the same time, Sands made their own history with their debut in AA with a big shutout win over North Surrey.

Both game of the week matchups ended up being routs, as #1 ranked VC clobbered #4 ranked STM 36-0 in AAA. In AA, LT made quick work of Barsby with LT QB Willets leading the way to victory.

The Kickoff Classic at UBC was quite well received (although not well attended). The event was well organized, was broadcast on live Radio and recorded TV, and to top it off the football action was fantastic. Notre Dame eeked out a narrow 1pt victory against a surprising New West team. Centennial held their ground against a bigger, more experienced Bellingham squad. And finally, WJM put on a very entertaining show, defeating Lethbridge in the final game. All in all, the event was a success (even though next to nobody was there to see it).
