2005 AAA Power Rankings

Last updated Sep 18, 2005 Week 4

Lots of movement again. Biggest losers this week were Hansen (drops 8), Handsworth (drops 5) and Pinetree (drops 5). Biggest winner continues to be New West (up 3 more), South Kam also moves up (up 3). Top 3 teams are solid, from 4 on, it's a crapshoot, waiting for some teams to step up and prove their worth. Week 5 will show more contenders and pretenders.

1. (1) Vancouver College Fighting Irish (2-1)
- Roughed up by Ferndale, that's alright, got to witness the Locker show first hand. On the road to meet 2A Nooksack south of the border, should win that one.

2. (2) WJ Mouat Hawks (3-0)
- Early ferry didn't seem to bother the Hawks, made easy work of AA Barsby. Huge matchup this weekend vs Top 5 Timberline.

3. (3) Centennial Centaurs (1-2)
- Picked up the win over top ranked Cochrane of Alberta. Will roll over Hansen, but should not take them lightly.

4. (5) Timberline Wolves (3-0)
- Romp over Cowichan proves nothing. Biggest test of the year so far vs WJM this week. A win would be very impressive indeed.

5. (6) STM Knights (2-1)
- Move up into Top 5 by virtue of Hansen falling way south. Win over Holy Cross was good, but it's Holy Cross. Have week off to prepare for Regular Season.

6. (8) Terry Fox Ravens (1-2)
- Lost bigtime to Burlington. With no offense to speak of, will drop from here. Burnaby Central is probably better. Need to find the offense vs a weak South Delta team.

7. (9) Mt. Boucherie Bears (2-0)
- Rutland was easy, but not easy enough. Can't stress enough the lack of good competition, could Salmon Arm or South Kam be better?? We're about to find out, huge game vs Salmon Arm coming up.

8. (10) Notre Dame Jugglers (2-1)
- Blasted the defending champs Hansen, still not convinced Notre Dame is a top 10 team. Game vs Holy Cross this week means nothing, although Notre Dame is the heavy favorite.

9. (12) New West Hyacks (1-2)
- Stayed with Squalicum until final minutes. New West is on a roll, keeps on surprising. Top 10 is here, watch out for Top 5. South Kam is another good test, should be a slight favorite.

10. (11) North Delta Huskies (2-0)
- Convincing win over Burnaby Central. With Hansen and South Delta dropping fast, North Delta is contending for #2 now, New West slightly better for now. Needs a big win over Seaquam to stay here.

11. (7) Handsworth Royals (2-0)
- Good news, won both pre-season games so far. Bad news, scored only 17 points in 2 games. Latest 7-3 win over South Delta is downright disappointing. Moving back down out of Top 10.

12. (4) Rick Hansen Hurricanes (1-2)
- Wow, blown away by Notre Dame. What can I say, the defending champion factor is completely out of the window now. Rookies will need time to develop. Outmatched vs Cent this week, expect big loss. Definitely not Top 10.

13. (14) Salmon Arm Golds (2-0)
- Had week off preparing for MtB, huge game, a win would bring them into Top 10.

14. (16) West Vancouver Highlanders (2-1)
- Close win over AA Hugh Boyd doesn't mean too much for rankings. AA Sentinel is up next, expect Conn to experiment and play backups here.

15. (15) Burnaby Central Wildcats (0-2)
- Loss to North Delta shows the new system/coaches need more time to develop with the group. Need a romp over Rutland.

16. (19) South Kamloops Titans (1-1)
- Found the offense vs Pinetree to go along with the outstanding defense. New West is a true test.

17. (17) South Delta Sun Devils (1-2)
- 7-3 loss to Hansworth, keeps disappointing. QB Josh Parks experiment isn't working, need to make a change here. Doesn't stand a chance vs Top 10 Fox.

18. (13) Pinetree T-Wolves (1-1)
- Destroyed by South Kam, very disappointing indeed. Back to the drawing board, AA Barsby this week is no pushover.

19. (20) Carson Graham Eagles (1-2)
- Slight surprise win over Kelowna. Passing game seems to be working. Defense still allowed 20+ pts by the lowly Owls. Won't do so well vs AA Sands. Need some more life to move up from here.

20. (21) Holy Cross Crusaders (0-2)
- Lose to STM expected, still waiting for Holy Cross to "live up to their potential". You mean the Potential that went to play for STM and is now only playing basketball, oh right. Could do better vs Notre Dame, but not by much.

21. (18) Kelowna Owls (1-2)
- Should've beat Carson, but didn't. Handsworth won't be any easier. Dropping near Rutland now.

22. (22) Cowichan T-Birds (1-2)
- Pounded 51-13 by Timberline. RB David Boyd looked good, needs more blocking support to show what he can do.

23. (23) Rutland Voodoo (0-3)
- Loses to MtB as expected, won't do much better vs Burnaby Central this week.

I think both New West and Notre Dame should be closer to the top 5. The coaching at these schools is as good as it gets!

We'll see how good Fox and MtB are this week. If they struggle, NW easily goes up to as high as #6. ND was bad in first 2 games, seemed to have picked it up though, I say they stay #8...
