2006 AA Island Conference Preview
Predicted Finish
1. John Barsby Bulldogs
2. Ballenas Whalers
3. GP Vanier
4. Gulf Island Scorpions
5. Nanaimo Islanders
6. Mark Isfeld Ice
7. Highland Raiders
Updated again. Sources tell me that the Highland Raiders will be fielding a team at the AA level and they've been placed in the Island conference. Don't know anything about them, and they didn't have a JV team, so I expect a lot of new program bumps.
Updated. The realignment here makes sense. Now that all the island teams are all together, there won't be so much griping from teams on both the island and mainland over the travel for league games.
The Barsby Bulldogs look to have another great year, looking to go back the Championships in 2006. Outstanding DE Woznesensky will be back to anchor the defense. RB Thai will take over ball-carrying duties in the Double-Wing. The Bulldogs will be a top 5 team again in 2006.
Ballenas loses superstar back Andrushko to graduation this year. In 2006, the Whalers will rely on a lot of young up and coming talent. The JV Whalers played well in AAA. It will be interesting if they can transform their game as they were so heavily reliant on Andrushko this year. It will be a work in progress and I expect the Whalers to make playoffs but won't contend.
2005 was a season to forget for the Gulf Islands Scorpions. 2006 should be much better. A pretty good JV team moves up along with a mostly Gr 11 team this year means the experience will give the Scorpions the confidence to compete against Barsby and Ballenas.
Vanier won't be as good in 2006 as they were this year. Still they are better than Nanaimo, and Mark Isfeld.

If you want to hate on a team, that's fine. But let's be try to be semi-intelligent here.
Saying a team is a bunch of *** without backing it up is pretty lame. Have a take and back it up. Is it that hard??

Mt. Doug in AA and they dominate.
Mt. Doug in AAA and they won't win a league game. That is just sooo funny...
Let's hear Mt. Doug talking trash next year at AAA.

last time mt doug wnet to AAA, i dont think they even came within 30 points of a win, what makes u think this time will be different
At 11:14 PM, December 31, 2005, Anonymous said…
Because this will be the mount doug team that finished in the top 4 in jv in 04, and they'll kick ass

Mt doug is a respectable program that works just as hard as anyone else so who cares. if they beat you then they beat you. if they dont then they dont.

How is Mount Doug respectable??
They played a game with out BCHF's permission. They didn't follow the rules.

and they got away with it.

If this conference was to stay intact then I would disagree with the predictions....Mt Douglas is a better team and has better coaching than Frank Hurt. Mission and Tweedsmuir are interchangable but I personally give the nod to The Roadrunners.
1 Rams
2 Hornets
3 Roadrunner
4 Panthers
5 Ice
6 Spartans
7 Towhees

Mount Doug will be fine next year.
They will contend.

Mount Douglas will do just fine. They have a great coaching staff that can get those players ready for any game and make adjustments on the fly. Good Luck Rams!!

Dude mount doug is wayyyyyy to cocky so u guys finnished top 4 in JV
as we all know two years ago means nothing at all. if u recall barsby did the same thing 2 years ago in jv and look wut they did this year in AA pretty much nothin. Mount Doug could finnish in the top 10 but i highly doubt they will because they are pretty much compiled of a bunch of over confident jokes who will probable get over pwered and beat pysically and mentally at the AAA level

Another Courtenay team, the Highland Raiders, have joined this conference.

Thai will be the work horse for barsby can could see a 1500 yard year

Nanaimo should be ahead of Gulf Islands in the island conference.

ball suckers or not, ND is better than Gulf Islands. Even scored on Windsor in all there ball sucking ways

I believe Highland Raiders(Comox Valley) did, indeed, field a J V team last year. I also believe they won a first round playoff game.

why does Barsby always choke in the big game? why do folks think they will be any different this year? reminds me of the Canucks or the Seahawks, can't finish
At 12:04 PM, March 30, 2006, Anonymous said…
Barsby will be different this year, I assure you of that. There's a new, bigger an faster running back coming to the team.He plays on a provincial team for another province right now.All coaches have great plans for this one.It should be exciting!

I can assure you that Barsby will be different this year. There's a new, bigger and faster RB joining the team. He plays for a provincial team right now in a different province. It should make this exciting to watch!

They already have a pretty good rb in Cuong Thai. Who is this other rb?
At 7:17 AM, March 31, 2006, Anonymous said…
I can't post his name. I don't have permission. His coaches don't know he's moving yet, so it will remain that way for a while. I'm sure that Cuong Thai is a great RB.A little help from a star player that's use to playing at a higher level couldn't hurt.
At 8:24 AM, March 31, 2006, Anonymous said…
Unless this kid is from Quebec then I have a hard time believing that he will be better than Cuong Thai. I think Thai will be a provincial all star this year. I think Quebec and maybe Ontario are the only provinces that play a better level of high school than BC and it is up for debate. The big question is, why Nanaimo?
At 9:39 AM, March 31, 2006, Anonymous said…
I wouldn't say that any other province plays at a higher level than B.C. Why Nanaimo? His family is moving there and he's only 16. I also wouldn't claim he's better than Cuong Thai. It would just make the team stronger with 2 great RB's
At 11:20 AM, March 31, 2006, Anonymous said…
if barnsby has thai then the new kid should go to NDSS.
At 10:21 AM, April 01, 2006, Anonymous said…
This sounds like BS to me. You say you aren't posting his name because his coaches don't know he is moving. What are the chances that his coaches from another province read BCsportsfanatic's site. I would say slim and none and slim just left town. So unless he is from this province and you don't want to tell then your reasons are bs.
At 1:58 PM, April 01, 2006, Anonymous said…
I said that I do not have his permission, is what I said.I don't argue with immaturity. You can retract what you say come September. And no, he's not living in B.C, yet.

Whoever said Barsby chokes in the "Big Game" is a total spud. You gotta win a lot of "Big Games" to get to the "Big Game" and Barsby is consistently in"Big Games". Secondly when you are in the "Big Game" it is usually against a damn good team that earned its right to be there. In those instances a good team wins and a good team loses. Such is life.
Windsor is the class of the league the past ten years and then there is Barsby, Sentinel and Ballenas each with two or three championship appearances, numerous semi-final and quarter-final games. Over the past ten years no one else in the league can match those records. Fulton gets honorable mention.

Apparently Sands is playing in the NFC West this year and is already in trouble with tampering with players from other NFL Franchises.
They of course deny it as it is all in the spirit of giving young people the opportunity to play and North Delta is realigning its school system. Sean Alexander wants the experience of playing for Coach U. I guess the latest recruiting dinner was a huge plus in bringing Alexander to Canada!! NFL commisioners are at their wits end.

Waaaaay to close to April Fools Pal!! Good one though!

Nah, don't buy it. those are "middle games" and when it is time to play the "big game" victory passes Barsby by. Ballenas as of late looks that way to.

Hey the kid from out of province is now going to SANDS.
He got a call from Coach Ueyeama yesterday....haha
Oh well another one bites the dust
At 11:14 AM, April 08, 2006, Anonymous said…
the one I was talking about is still out of province and is not going anywhere, but Barsby. He is still training with the provincial team to play in the canada cup this July 7-16th .Then he moves a couple of days after the game to Nanaimo. :-)

The guy was trying to make a joke, a lame one. Obviously this mystery kid is not going anywhere but Barsby.

New info today....maybe it is not a joke after all.
Stay posted.

Barsby/Ballenas to top the division. Will definately be a barn burner seeing how they did at the Jamboree. Rest of the division is not at that level but can knock on the door if top two take things easy. Coaching change up at Vanier. What impact will that have? Gulf Islands looking tricky, ND big big up front, what do they have behind. Isfield has a QB who can throw and some giant Rcvrs (like 6'5ish). Highlands not showing up much in Spring but Fall will bring the faithfuls out. I tell ya, #3 spot in this division is gonna be one heck of a race!!

so whats the word on this kid going to barsby?
