2006 AA East Conference Preview

Predicted Finish

1. Frank Hurt Hornets
2. Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers
3. Mission Roadrunners
4. North Surrey Spartans
5. Aldergrove Totems
6. Earl Marriott Mariners

Updated. Again, like the realignment here. The top 3 from this conference, Frank Hurt, LT, and Mission should easily all crack the top 10. Earl Marriott is the newcomer going from JV to Varsity.

I picked Frank Hurt to finish first because they have too much talent returning plus they add a solid JV group to the mix. With QB Paquette and RB Dosanjh leading the way, there's nothing to say that the Hornets could be a top 3 team in AA in 2006.

LT won the AA JV Title in 2005. A lot of top players from the runner-up in the Varsity team this year will be graduating including Willetts, Warbinek, Deildale, Anuik, etc.. But there is enough skill here to contend.

Mission's program has been turned around by Coach Watrin and I expect the fruits of his labor have already started to pay off, 2nd round playoffs in Varsity, runner up in AA JV in 2005. With RB Minor back for his Senior year, the Roadrunners just need to build around that. Should be a good year for Mission in 2006.

I selected North Surrey to finish next simply because North Surrey Minor Football produces good teams that should continue to feed North Surrey with decent players. Aldergrove will continue to struggle but do return a majority of their team from last year (at least you hope they return), and Earl Marriott will get a rude awakening at the Varsity level.

Seaquam will have a much more competitive team this year and i think they will be top 10 easily, my prediction for the top5 will be
1.Sands ( No im not from sands )
    2.Mt. Doug
    3.LT
    4.Frank Hurt
    5.Windsor
The reason i think Sands will be #1 is just because they were pretty damn good with so many gr 11's..and im pretty sure they will recruit someone from somewhere to replace trautman =D lol..just kidding, well. maybe not, but nobodys proved em wrong so, maybe they didnt recruit. anyways lets not all start posting on how sands " cheated " or anything. How do the rest of you think the top5 will look like?

That's bullshit, Boyd gets screwed again. Why would we be in a tie with Seaquam, Seaquam did nothing last year and they wont do anything this year

Boyd's a solid team, but Sands and Barsby are both better.

Seaquam was a decent team in 2005, and they'll be better in 2006.

You'll just have to prove it come playoff time.

how come John Oliver doesn't have a preview in any of the conferences? as far as i know we will be having a team...

and i think you should do some on the junior varsity teams as well

A key player to watch out for Fanatic is Tyson Pencer. He was injured for most of the season and is there best play on defence. He had freaking 25 tackles against windsor!!!!!

tyson is gonna be a machine on offense...kardash is taking over for trautman, hes 6'4 i believe, 235 lbs? and he runs, so dont underestimate their offense one bit, and give seaquam a little credit guys

I heard that Barsby is transferring ALL of their players to Sands.

If you cant beat em join em.

Especially since Sands can get away with open recruiting. Half of the UBC players are transferring to Sands. Who cares if they are in their 20's.

Sands will win all AA next year!!!

  • At 2:47 PM, January 01, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    Hahaaa

Thats funny cause I heard that too. Players from Barsby will be driven and ferried to Sands each day by their parents.

  • At 3:22 PM, January 01, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

i heard of this too, i also heard that sands is holding a draft where only sands can draft, they will be drafting reggie bush, matt leinhart, and they will be taking kicker duncan o' mahoney,

windsor will meet them in the finals and sands will lose because the whole windsor team will have super powers and will fly, so the whole team will b floating in the air, and will be snapping the ball in the air, and will score at will,

but then sands will make a 4th down stop because superman is there linebacker, duncan o mahoney will kick a field goal from the stands, and will be worth 4 pts,

    windsor wins the game 300 - 4

Thai is overrated. He is very slow.

Thai isnt a bad back at all. But he didnt really run all over sands, Sands will win in 2006 and windsor will win in 2007. But as for Thai being slow, hes not slow, hes just not like amazingly fast. Game speed is alot different than your 40 time, i caught tyler bates from behind and he had a crazy fast 40 time.

    Island

This conference is in contention for the worst conference in AA right up there with the interior teams. Tweeds and Mission will be pretty good but not great, Frank Hurt had a decent junior team but they don't have any real impact gr 11's from this year coming back, they have also never won a playoff game in their history, Earl Marriot will probably be better than North Surrey and Aldergrove. Aldergrove was the poorest coached team in highschool football last year and North Surrey might have been one of the worst highschool football teams ever assembled. Earl Marriot is in their first year of senior ball too. It is simply a terrible bunch of teams mixed in with two pretty good ones.

  • At 12:20 PM, February 26, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

North Surrey is going to be brutal. All of the top players from the North Surrey Bantam team play for Frank Hurt. I guess they all must live in Newton.

  • At 1:13 PM, February 26, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

How is it possible that every kid on the North Surrey Bantam team also attends Frank Hurt? Last time, I heard Surrey is the largest growing city in Canada. I would figure that the kids that play for North Surrey Bantam must be from Newton, Fleetwood, Whalley, Sullivan Heights, Tynehead etc. Therefore, unless Frank Hurt recruits, it is impossible that most of the kids that play for the NS Bantam Team also attend Frank Hurt!

Check the roster, they have the top players from the North Surrey Bantam team. You can put two and two together after that.

I just wanted to say that not one Bantam player from North Surrey Minor football played for North Surrey Secondary.. I know because i play for them. We have nine players from North Surrey that play for Frank Hurt Secondary. Two of the nine accually live in the catchement for FH. The other seven (including myself) went to play for football, not because of recruiting. We all desided to go from others asking us if we wanted to play high school ball (players, not coaches). We all played with each other for NS and wanted to play high school too. Most of the guys already went there since grade 8/9 and the other few went there this year.

  • At 10:12 PM, March 03, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

And yes..., they happen to be the players who are the stars of North Surrey Minor Football Bantam Team,(well most of them)... thats why they went to play for Frank Hurt Seondary, everyone of the 9 players that play for NS and FH play for NS first

  • At 9:52 AM, March 04, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

It is too bad you might win in community every year because the coaching is crap but your crap coaching in high school will probably equal zero playoff wins. History says so.

  • At 1:26 PM, March 04, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

History also shows they have only made the playoffs a handful of times and never had talent to go further, except 2 years ago, but choked vs. teams that stack and get there in their 1st or 2nd year with wins.

Just getting there is a good start considering level of the players in the past. Next step is to get wins. With NSMF players and other good athletes, now we can get that 1st playoff win. We did it in JV last year at the AAA level. The coaches have the systems in place. We just have to execute.

  • At 12:26 PM, March 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

The same coaches have been there for 10 years. Will the system work this year? You would figure with Marlon Azurdia and Mark Bailey in 2002, they would have one at least one playoff game. Or in 2004, with Matt Peterson , the Double A Offensive Player of the year. There is no question that Frank Hurt is loaded with talent this year, with help from North Surrey Minor (ie recruiting), but they have had talent in the past as well. As for winning a game in the JV play-offs, that doesn't mean anything. Many high school teams do not put much resources (ie good coaches) into their programs. When was the last time Windsor did anything in junior varsity?

  • At 4:29 PM, March 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

QUOTE: "You would figure with Marlon Azurdia and Mark Bailey in 2002, they would have one at least one playoff game"

They didnt even make the playoffs that year (2002).

Every other year they did, they had no business winning a playoff game anyhow as the team they played went on to win or play in the Championship game(Windsor in 1994 and Delta in 1999), with the exception of 2004 when they bowed out to Boyd who eventually lost to Windsor/champion

2004 they had a strong year, 2006 should prove to be one too, but they are not championship quality team yet.

Mission will be the top team in this conference, followed by LT and then Hurt.

  • At 10:07 PM, March 05, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

The fact that they didn't even make the play-offs with those guys in 2002 , shows there is something wrong! Regardless of the coaching, Frank Hurt's talent will get them the division title this year, which will get them into the Quarter Finals. The talent may get them to the Semi-Finals. However, the only question is whether there great coaching can get them into the finals!

What the hell man. Name one supporting teamate of mention. Two guys who can play isnt gonna get you anywhere. No QB in 2002 and a week line only gave them 1/2 an offense. Playing in a week div that year got them as far as they could get with those two and no one else!

  • At 11:28 AM, March 12, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Teams are good because coaches make players out of no name guys. That doesn't happen at Frank Hurt. All of the fringe guys who did not transfer in suck with the exception of 1 or 2 guys. They wouldn't even be able to field a program if they didn't have all of these North Surrey minor guys transfer in. If you don't think so check out the roster of their senior team this year. Take off the Surrey Bears and Tigers off the team and they wouldn't have enough bodies to field a senior team.

  • At 5:39 PM, March 12, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    RIGHT ON MAN!

Right on for the North Surrey Tigers and Bears players who make a solid core of players, because it didnt matter what our coaches or any coaches did with the "no name guys" the past two years. Most of them got the shyte beat out of them and quit.

Thats why we will kick some ass this year with all us community boyz making the plays

  • At 6:29 PM, March 13, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

It wasn't supposed to be a compliment to the community players, it was a diss on the shitty coaching. The community players didn't do well either last year. They had the same bad habits one develops from dominating as athletes in community football. Fundamentally crap.

Hey we (JVs) did awesome last year. We were a quarter final team as AAA JV players, and now that we are moving up that will pay off. I think our SV coaches are great, who do great things for our program, and I cant wait to play for them. As far as the SV team last year, I think they did as well as to expect in the middle of the pack, making the playoffs in their down season. Better than off the radar all together like alot of other teams were. 4-3 is pretty good after gradding all of your top players and only being left a handful

  • At 8:33 PM, March 13, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

They only made it because 16 teams made it in AA. There was not in anyway 16 deserving teams in AA last year. Quarterfinals in JV means absolutely nothing. You made the top 8. Big freakin deal. You'll be lucky if you make the top 8 (not in this guys rankings but for real in the playoffs) in senior. Prepare to get embarrased by better coaching and better fundamentals.

  • At 10:19 PM, March 13, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Jeez... whats with all the hateing of Frank Hurt??? they are not a bad team, they havn't had a losing record for the last two seasons as far as i remember. If you want to talk about bad teams then talk about Aldergrover or North Surrey or Earl marriot :)

  • At 10:19 PM, March 13, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Mission didn't do that much better this year eather

  • At 11:38 PM, March 13, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Shove your constant fundamentals comments and coaching comments up your arse. They would have made the playoffs regardless of format due to their record because they have fundamentals and good coaching.

If you cant bring up anything other than fundamentals and coaching, then talk about the teams that REALLY dont have that in place - eg: the teams that didnt make the playoffs the past couple seasons and that had losing records.

This topic is lame and boring to read about with the constant fundamentals comments

Teams ranked in this Div are done accurately in the top 3, maybe not in that specific order. If you dont like it, then speak about why, instead of the whining comments of some team being crap just because you dont like them. Back them up with fact.

No one is crap if they have a winning record and can make the playoffs.

Beyond the 1st round of playoffs then teams could be considered elite. So maybe what you should be saying is they are not crap but are not elite yet either

  • At 11:55 PM, March 13, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    Okay then

Here is how it will look:

Top three in this order =
    1) Mission - way too much returning
    2) LT - too much lost, but lots coming up from JV
    3) FH - lots returning and lots coming up from JV

    Bottom 3
    4) Aldergrove
    5) EMS
    6) NS

who do you think the key players to a successful season will be in this conference

  • At 2:30 PM, March 15, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    David Minor (RB) for Mission

Sheldon Dosanjh (RB) for Frank Hurt

Zac Peach (RB) for Lord Tweedsmuir

This is the order the teams will finish as well. A solid run game lead by these players is the base to these three teams. The big difference could be how the passing duos/trios can augment the ground attack

Aaron Pretty (QB) to Nick DiGuistini (WR) / Rysam McIver (TE)

Marc Paquette (QB) to Jordan Linnen (WR) / Clint Flaten (TE) / Shane Gerard (WR)

    OR

Adam Berger (QB) to 2005 rookies Daniel Hettes or Kevin Deol???

Down the end stretch of the season if everyone stays healthy, Mission and Frank Hurt will be in prime form for playoff spots

sorry but FH is fundamentally crappy, I didn't mention the other teams that didn't make the playoffs because they were both terrible fundamentally and at execution combined with shitty talent. FH has pretty good talent, poor fundamentals and poor execution. that is why they can make the playoffs but why they will never do anything when they get there.

    Agree to disagree I guess.

This program gets a little better every year, and dare I say it, this means building a stronger base into the talent pool by increasing their fundamentals.

Definitely a top AA team the next 2 years.

They will have to prove me wrong. They have zero playoff wins coming into this year. If they win a playoff game then I will give them respect.

Frank Hurt probaly has the most talents coming from JV than anyother team

  • At 10:53 AM, March 19, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Then why did they lose in the quarterfinals? Either you are wrong and the talent is not that good or you are right and the coaching was not good enough to get them past the quarterfinals.

Man you are relentless on trashing them.

Look at it this way, a AA JV team going to the AAA JV quaterfinals and then losing by one point to Mt Doug who then got spanked by STM.

Lets look more closely at Lord Tweedsmuirs chances with their champion AA JV players moving up. Who are they? What are they gonna do for LT?

I agree with the above about the Mission players. These kids are going to make Mission a tough team.

Oddly enough, Aldergrove has a talented group of JVs moving up as well. Mind you they didnt win a game last year, but they sure pumped out some impressive stats according to the highschool stats page.

    EMS is an unknown.

  • At 12:01 PM, March 19, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

The stats are misleading about Aldergrove. Their record says it all. They have talent but might be the most disorganized team in high school football.

I only am stating the facts about Frank Hurt. I'll stop criticizing them when people stop giving them credit for being a power or a team on the rise. 10 years, 3 playoff appearances, 0 playoff wins. You make my argument for me when you say that they lost to a team that got spanked the next week.

I hope everyone doubts Tweedsmuir and their talent. They will be good this year and even better the next.

  • At 2:13 PM, March 19, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Considering most of the Tweeds juniors played Cloverdale Bantam and they beat Surrey Bantam, I'm sure they will be good! Doesn't half of Frank Hurt's team play for Surrey Bantam this year?

if you look at # of grads vs Jvs on the move then i go with 1)hurt 2) mission 3) tweedy

  • At 3:41 PM, March 19, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

oh yeah about 20 players play bantam and midget

  • At 4:56 PM, March 19, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Players moving up from junior does not mean as much as you guys are making it out to be. Who are their top gr 11 players returning? The jump from junior to senior is significant and many players who dominate in junior struggle in gr 11. More often than not players don't excel unitl they are seniors. How many of these teams of good gr 11 players coming back for their senior year? If none of them do then they might do well within their league but get beat in the playoffs.

    RESPONSE:

Nobody has said they are a power team. BC Sports Fanatic has just placed them in the top 3 of their Div. Certainly they will attain that!! From what I know about this season .... Yes they are a team on the rise, especially compared to last season where they only had 4-5 Gr 12s period. They can only go up this year, thus being a team on the rise, not a power though. I think you are getting the term power related to Power House - like Barsby, Windsor, Balleenas. These are power house programs

I know they lost all their games but check out these stats for Aldergrove:

    Pavel Bondarau
    RUSH 35 for 105 yds 1TD

    Christopher Daigneault
    REC 34 for 637 yds 4 TDs
    DEF 45 tackles 5 sacks 1INT 1TD

    Skylar Dimitry
    REC 9 for 133 yds 0 TDs
    DEF 13 tackles 1 sack

    Kary Donald
    REC 10 for 218 yds 1 TD
    DEF 9 tackles

    Nathan Dube
    DEF 35 tackles 4 sacks

    Brian Summers
    PASS 52of120 /888 yds 6TDs 11 INTs
    RUSH 19 for 58 yds 1 TD

Will they be better than North Surrey and Earl Marriot?

Aldergrove will give FH a game this year. They have some talent.

they will give mission & LT a run or pass for their $$$

    This is trash talk central.

Everyone is gonna beat everyone and everyone is crappy.

    This is too funny.

What is even more funny is that the top 3 in this Div will not get anything done vs Sands and Windsor

  • At 8:42 PM, March 20, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

Don't forget Barsby and Ballenas, they won't get anything done against them either.

A QUOTE from the OLD Island Preview:

    FRANK HURT????
    TWEEDSMUIR???
    MISSION????
look buddy it's obvious you have no f...ing clue about what to expect next football season because if you did you'd understand that if Mt. Doug were to play any of these scrubs they'd shit kick them. BTW Tweeds will not be good next year either. Although Frank Hurt will come out #1 in the conference with Mt. Doug leaving, expect Mission to get absolutely raped by Frank Hurt, Mission sucks ass and will continue to suck ass next year.

i just hope that we all have a fun season, not like last season where the strike messed everything up cancelling a couple games and messing up the last year for the seniors

since nobody is talking about anything on this topic.... Who has the best or Worst home jerseys?

North Surrey (Black grey & red)
    LT (Green & White)
    Frank Hurt (Black & Gold)
    Aldergrove (Blue & white)
Mark Isfeld (Baby Blue & silver)
    Mission (Green & White)
    Earl Morriot (I dont Know)

Isfeld are pretty ugly, especially with the ICE logo on the back where the names usually go

Earl Marriot's jerseys are very cool. Like the NY Jets

Those are the players for the JV team... and they beat seaquam earlier this year... however theyre o-line is the most laziest group ever... the defense was as well lazy... and the QB was like 5'4 throwing the ball... the only good player was #18... which was the reciever...

Apparently Sands is playing in the NFC West this year and is already in trouble with tampering with players from other NFL Franchises.

They of course deny it as it is all in the spirit of giving young people the opportunity to play and North Delta is realigning its school system. Sean Alexander wants the experience of playing for Coach U. I guess the latest recruiting dinner was a huge plus in bringing Alexander to Canada!! NFL commisioners are at their wits end.

Lord Tweedsmuir will win this division again , hands down! Remember, Cloverdale's bantam program was much better that North Surrey Minor who feeds Frank Hurt!

  • At 9:59 PM, August 02, 2006, Anonymous Anonymous said…

    For sure

AA JV champions and top athletes from the Cloverdale and Langley teams. They will be tops again in this Div with Mission following close behind. Frank Hurts JVs were good last year, but the Gr 12s that are returning are not enough to compliment the up coming JVs, unless they choose to turn it up a notch and prove us wrong.

Big rumour in the coaching ranks. Lord Tweedsmuir have recruited Rob Parker as the offensive gurue of the program. He remembered from Quarterbacking the great Richmond Raider teams of the 80's. Great move by Tweedsmuir who will contend in all levels with this pick up. Go Panthers.
