Mt. Doug Rams vs Frank Hurt Hornets

Sat, Nov. 12 at 12:30pm, BC Place, Vancouver

The Fanatic spread line:

MtD-21 at FH+21 O/U 42

Final Score 41-14 for Mt Doug. Hurt had many opportunities to punch it in, but the Rams defense stepped up when they needed to. On offense, the Rams simply overpowered the Hornets. The Rams prepare for an Island showdown with Ballenas. Hornets already looking forward to next year and to cheer on their JV team that plays these same pesky Rams in their next JV playoff game.

Mt Doug losing their top 5 spot and should've faced a tough opponent, but got luck in this case and face Frank Hurt. The Rams throttled Frank Hurt 39-7 in Week 4. The Rams have won games in the last 3 weeks vs Auburn WA and Mission. Had the week off last week as their game vs N Surrey last year was cancelled. The Rams have faced good competition all year and taken care of every team. Frank Hurt has won some games, but hasn't looked great doing it. Having lost to the divisional rival Rams once already, should be another rout for the Rams.

Update, had to remove a comment. Did I not say no threats of violence?? Give your head a shake guys...

Frank Hurt suffers from the same ailment as many AA teams in that they do not execute well offensively. Instead of working on executing basic plays well, they relay on their athletes just to make plays and use a lot of deception and "gimmick" plays and schemes. The problem with this approach is that success becomes directly proportional to athletic talent they happen to have that season.

Also, another problem in AA, Frank Hurt appears to neglect proper coaching and execution on the offensive line.

Windsor is the class of AA right now. If you take a look at their offense, you will see that they do no do anything fancy they just execute their basic package very well. Yes, they do have a few trick plays available, but they do not rely on them. Yes, they do have superior talent right now, but they also have great coaching.

A lot of people sing the praises of Frank Hurt and how Mike Biggin runs such a great program. Yes, the program appears to be well organized, with a full staff and strenth coaches, and the program is willing to spend money on things like heading out of town for a few days for spring camp, and that's fine. However, their staff still has not figured out the actual game portion of football yet.

This program has received far too much praise and accolades in their approximately 8 or 9 years of existence considering their consistent mediocrity.

For this program to be more successful in the future, the coaching staff must begin to focus on what happens on the field.

My prediction for this game: Frank Hurt will be close for about a half, and then Mount Doug will pull away in the second half to win by 3 or 4 touchdowns.

You are right, for the most part, especially about the athletes and the playbook and execution.

As far as praise, Frank Hurt has only got a look of praise since last season, when they finally made the playoffs and had some great players. But until that season, they got the snot beat out of them on a regular basis and took their lumps in stride to try and get the "program" functioning. Now that is has, they really DO have to take care of getting the proper coaches in place, otherwise they will be mediocre at best, like they are this year.

For now they are on the right path to slowly getting better

Windsor has 15 Grade 12's on their Team , Frank Hurt only has has 4 or 5 on their roster. Next time Windsor hits the field tell them to pick any 5 grade 12 players and play them both way the whole game and lets see how good they do.

I'll betch you Coach Schuman would make Frank Hurt a top 5 team with the existing Hornet players. Nobody prepares and works harder than the Windsor coaches. Geez is that why they are so competitive year over year!

The above is true. I bet Schuman has been at more games scouting opponents than games he's actually coached. The guy is D-E-D-I-C-A-T-E-D.

alright i take it back. We ARE gonna be playing more then 5 12's on friday. I misread your statement. Now I dont see why you're acting like a juvenile whiner about the differences in a year. Some of the best players on any team are grade 11's. Now are you gonna keep bitching about how you dont have enough good players or are you gonna get prepared to play mount doug?

MD runs 3 grade 12's on defense and 5/6 on offense so grade 12's dont make the difference...TALENT does....cant wait to see them play next year

or turn overs. we are very awaare that we are playing a vrey good team.

I don't understand why Paquette didn't start all year for the Hornets. It's quite obvious that he his alot better QB than Knull. I would have played Knull at TE. They had two pretty good receivers with Knull at QB and Dosangh and Aruzdia in the backfield, they would have been pretty solid! Obviously, Coach Biggin and Coach Heskin know what they are doing! Or do they?

because paquette plays on the jv team and the jv team cant afoord to get him hurt

Nice to see all the parents second guess the coaches, almost as nice as the way they judge the players. Lets the coaches coach and the players play, PARENTS just learn to watch you had your time. As for Knull, playing DE and QB must of been pretty hard on the kid, playing both way each game, calling play both on defence and offence. NO!. don't even think about placing blame on this kid!

The priority should be given to the Senior team! The fact is that would have made more sense for Knull to play a position in which he can play at the next level. Paquette is a stud and should have started for the big team. Once the big team got eliminated he could have played with the juniors. Calvin McCarty played for STM's senior team as a junior back in the days. That is just the way you are suppose to do it! In addition it make the transition next year for Paqueete smoother.

What if?..that's all this is.You can't keep wondering what if we did this or what if we did that.
The step from Jv to Varsity is bigger than you think, Paquette had a few plays at QB throughout the year didn't look that as good as he does in JV. If all this talk is about one twenty three yard pass for a TD at the dome, remeber Mt. Douglas had thier Thrid stringer on in the last part of the game and he threw the pass over a player that was four feet tall. YES! Paquette is a great QB, but let him enjoy JV first.

    Frank Hurt:

Receiving praise for mediocrity since 1996.

Okay fine, Frank Hurt has a good football program and would be one of the best if those annoying "games" didn't get in the way.
