Week 9 AAA Power Rankings

Last updated Oct 30, 2005 Week 9

A couple of underdogs came up huge this week. South Delta, South Kam, and West Van put it all together for big wins. At the same token, North Delta, Salmon Arm, and Timberline did not get the job done. Other big news was that AA #1 Windsor beat #3 Centennial. Again upsets were the name of the game this week. This sets up for a fascinating finish next week with several key games the "selection committee" will be keeping their eye on.

1. (1) Vancouver College Fighting Irish (2-0) Exhibition (3-1)
- Shutout Notre Dame in a cold wet one. Carson up next. Should easily wrap up #1 going into playoffs.

2. (2) WJ Mouat Hawks (2-0) Exhibition (4-0)
- Still undefeated with easy win over New West. Hansen up next. Should easily make semis, lack of top competition may hurt when they get into the playoffs though.

3. (3) Centennial Centaurs (1-0) Exhibition (2-3)
- Back to .500 overall with loss to AA Windsor. No need to hang their heads though, looking forward to playoffs when the games really count.

4. (4) STM Knights (1-0) Exhibition (2-1)
- Win over Pinetree is insignificant. Hasn't seen real game action since they beat Notre Dame over a month ago. Will they be ready for playoffs?? Who knows.

5. (6) Notre Dame Jugglers (1-1) Exhibition (3-1)
- Hung in tough vs #1 VC, couldn't move the ball into redzone. Defense was decent. Plays a dangerous West Van team next.

6. (5) New West Hyacks (1-1) Exhibition (2-2)
- Nothing went right this week as they were rolled by WJM. Playoffs are guaranteed, need win next week vs South Delta to get a higher seeding.

7. (11) West Vancouver Highlanders (1-1) Exhibition (3-1)
- Hard earned victory over Timberline. A win over Notre Dame next week means a top 8 seeding for playoffs.

8. (7) Timberline Wolves (1-1) Exhibition (3-1)
- Loses a close one this time to West Van. Offense is a problem here, lack of big play threat. Playing for their playoff lives vs Handsworth next week, a loss and they could be one and done.

9. (10) Terry Fox Ravens (1-0) Exhibition (2-1)
- Cowichan forfeited the rest of the season. Exhibition game vs N Surrey was apparently arranged. The Ravens actually move up 1 with several upsets this weekend. Mega-matchup next week vs Centennial.

10. (15) South Kamloops Titans (2-0) Exhibition (1-2)
- A win over Salmon Arm could mean a top 8 seeding for playoffs. A blowout over Rutland could seal the deal.

11. (10) Salmon Arm Golds (0-1) Exhibition (3-1)
- South Kam loss is devastating. Need a win vs Mt Boucherie to stay in playoff contention.

12. (16) Holy Cross Crusaders (2-0) Exhibition (0-3)
- Undefeated in regular season with win over Hansen this week. Huge playoff matchup vs North Delta. A loss and it's doubtful they'd be selected. A win would get them in, problem is that they would probably face 1 of the big 4.

13. (18) South Delta Sun Devils (1-1) Exhibition (1-3)
- The unbelievable has happened and the playoffs are now in reach. A good showing vs New West and North Delta loss next week and they're in.

14. (8) North Delta Huskies (0-2) Exhibition (3-0)
- Loses to South Delta. No time to figure out what went wrong, as they have a do or die game vs Holy Cross next week. It's simple, win and you're in, lose and you can pack it in.

15. (17) Carson Graham Eagles (1-1) Exhibition (1-3)
- Made quick work of Handsworth. #1 VC up next. Good news is that they're getting better every week. Bad news is that they'll probably face a #1 seed in the first round of the playoffs.

16. (12) Handsworth Royals (0-2) Exhibition (3-0)
- Playoffs are slipping away for Prepchuk and Co. after loss to Notre Dame. Can they stay with VC this week?? Doubt it.

17. (13) Mt. Boucherie Bears (1-0) Exhibition (2-1)
- Sat idle this week. Hosts Kelowna on Tue. With Salmon Arm losing to South Kam, Bears hold their own fate for playoffs if they can win out.

18. (14) Rick Hansen Hurricanes (0-2) Exhibition (1-3)
- Stayed close with Holy Cross in the loss. With WJM coming up, mind as well clean out the lockers now.

19. (19) Pinetree T-Wolves (0-2) Exhibition (1-2)
- This season is a right-off. But next season will be a helluva lot better, JVs are very good indeed.

20. (21) Rutland Voodoo (0-2) Exhibition (1-3)
- Lose a close one to Kelowna. Can play spoiler next week vs South Kam.

21. (20) Kelowna Owls (0-1) Exhibition (1-3)
- Nice win over Rutland, a win over Mt Boucherie this week could mean an outside chance at playoffs.

22. (22) Burnaby Central Wildcats (0-1) Exhibition (0-3)
- Game cancellation pretty much sealed their fate for playoffs, although most would say it was decided much earlier. Burnaby Bowl next week vs STM will end in a rout.

23. (22) Cowichan T-Birds (0-1) Exhibition (2-2)
- Decided to pack it in with 2 road games to go. Better luck next season.

your ranking system is a little flawed the system is weighted heavily towards league games with exhibition games used to seperate teams that are close

Isn't that they way it's suppose to work??

This week was a tough one to rank with all the upsets. The playoff picture is becoming clearer though.

how can centennial not drop after managing to lose to a AA team? Yes it is windsor but Centennial is centennial and they were supposed to be the top...

Considering how Windsor killed Carson and the game vs Cent was very close, it's safe to assume Cent stays where they are at.

Besides, who do you move up to take their place. STM? Notre Dame? West Van? New West?

I would make a strong argument that Windsor beats all 4 of those teams as well. They are proven!!!

seeing as Nd and stm got to practise during the strike and new west, I would like to think they could have beaten Windsor

i think any top 8 team besides cent could have beaten windsor. i dont care how good a AA team is, they cant compete with a good AAA team if they play thier cards right. mainly because there used to AA teams, and that wont get a good team better.

    ur a moron.
the competition in AA is just as good as AAA..watch some of the games...i bet if there were just one leage all the teams together..there would be at least 2 AA Teams in the top 5.

if they merged this year, windsor might make top 5 but i dont think anyone else. if they merged 5-10 years ago, then there probably would be 3-5 AA schools in the top 10, but thats after they are at the same level of compition for several years.

but those schools that would make the top 10 are probably schools that should play up like most good schools do anyway, not stay back and try to get another AA title when they could actualy go against some compition in AAA. they might not win, but they would actualy go against the best of the best, not the best of the second best.
