Week 6 AA Power Rankings

Last updated Oct 2, 2005 Week 6

Top 7 stay the same. Mission continues to impress, Fulton is a top 10 team maybe more, OKM guts it out, and Sentinel all move up with wins. Valleyview, idle Frank Hurt, and Moscrop drops. Playoff picture starting to crystalize, Thanksgiving weekend is a make or break for many #1 seeds.

1. (1) Windsor Dukes (2-0) Exhibition (3-0)
- Don't know the result of Howe Sound game, assumed a blowout though. Windsor is favored over Ballenas, should be a fantastic game featuring 2 of the best backs in the province.

2. (2) Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers (2-0) Exhibition (3-0)
- Shutout N Surrey, Mt Doug game is game of the year for both teams. Will determine #1 seed in the conference.

3. (3) Sands Scorpions (1-0) Exhibition (3-1)
- Thanks for coming out Nanaimo, good night. Sands has been inconsistent so far, need their 'A' game for 4 quarters vs Boyd this week, or could get bounced.

4. (4) Mt. Douglas Rams (3-0) Exhibition (1-1)
- Let the trash talking begin, Mt Doug looking to claim the #1 seed along with bragging rights with win vs LT this week. Isfield win was like a Saturday walkthrough, no pads needed.

5. (5) John Barsby Bulldogs (1-0) Exhibition (2-2)
- Better watch out for Barsby, looking like a solid contender, Overshadowed, RB Tyler Bates is quietly having a record season. Blanked Seaquam, expect more of the same from Bates and Co. in an easy win over Nanaimo.

6. (6) Ballenas Whalers (3-0) Exhibition (0-2)
- Andrushko continues to blast his way into the record books in easy Gulf Islands victory. Heavyweight head-to-head RB matchup against Ephard and the Windsor Dukes this week. A win would be monumental.

7. (7) Hugh Boyd Trojans (1-0) Exhibition (1-3)
- Only surprise in Aldergrove game was a TD allowed. Could be an upset brewing if they beat highly touted Sands this week.

8. (9) Mission Roadrunners (2-0) Exhibition (2-0)
- Win over Vanier all but guarantees a trip to the playoffs. A win over Frank Hurt this week means a #3 seed is likely, therefore facing an easier #2 seed instead of a #1 seed.

9. (11) Clarence Fulton Maroons (2-0) Exhibition (1-2)
- Fulton is a contender, winning both games this week in convincing fashion. Faces Westsyde twice in 2 weeks coming up. Should win both easily

10. (8) G.P. Vanier Towhees (1-2) Exhibition (1-1)
- Loss to Mission was disappointing, playoffs slipping away. N Surrey game should be winnable, but nothing is guaranteed.

11. (13) Okanagan Mission Huskies (1-1) Exhibition (2-2)
- Lost to Fulton, but bounced back in a big way with win over Westsyde despite missing several players. Faces Valleyview in back-to-back weeks, extremely important for playoff seeding.

12. (10) Frank Hurt Hornets (1-1) Exhibition (2-0)
- Week off to prepare for Mission, they needed it after big loss to Mt Doug the week before. A win puts them 1 step further towards playoffs.

13. (12) Westsyde Blue Wave (1-1) Exhibition (0-1)
- Loses a tough game to OKM, won't get any easier with Fulton coming up twice in the next 2 weeks. Despite auto-matically qualifying for playoffs, these games DO mean something. The difference between facing a #1 seed (Windsor, LT, or Sands) or #3 seed.

14. (17) Sentinel Spartans (1-1) Exhibition (1-1)
- Impressive win over Moscrop, assuming they roll over Howe Sound and Gulf Islands, they will finish at worst 3rd and will face a #2 seed.

15. (14) Valleyview Vikings (0-2) Exhibition (0-3)
- Despite losing all their games so far, can still gain ground on the other 3 OK teams and gain a better seeding for playoffs.

16. (15) Moscrop Panthers (1-2)
Exhibition (0-2)
- Sentinel loss was disappointing. Luckily for Moscrop, both Howe Sound and Gulf Islands aren't a threat, although the Panthers will face a #1 seed in the playoffs.

17. (16) Seaquam Seahawks (0-1) Exhibition (1-2)
- Inconsistency and injuries have plagued the first year team. All is not lost this year though, as Seahawks can still make playoffs. Need wins over Aldergrove this week and Nanaimo later in the season to sneak in.

18. (18) Gulf Islands Scorpions (0-1) Exhibition (1-1)
- Managed a TD vs Ballenas, couldn't stop the Andrushko train though (not many can). Week off to prepare for Moscrop next week.

19. (19) Nanaimo District Islanders (0-1) Exhibition (1-3)
- Couldn't hang with #3 Sands, will be much of the same vs Barsby this week, a score would be nice.

20. (20) North Surrey Spartans (0-3) Exhibition (0-2)
- When you play more games than you have TDs, you know you're in trouble. Looking for a score vs Vanier this week.

21. (21) Mark Isfield Ice (0-3) Exhibition (0-2)
- Scoring streak comes to an end as the Ice get blanked for the first time this season by Mt Doug. Week off before attempting to get back on the scoreboard vs Mission in 2 weeks.

22. (22) Howe Sound Sounders (0-1) Exhibition (0-1)
- Needed a miracle vs Windsor. Expected to struggle vs Sentinel this week, could play spoiler though.

23. (23) Aldergrove Totems (0-1) Exhibition (0-1)
- Managed a score vs Hugh Boyd. Looking for more vs Seaquam this week, might be able to take advantage of the inexperience of Seaquam.

24. (24) Quesnel/Correlieu Cougars (0-0)
- Folded, should've expected as much.

25. (18) Kalamalka (0-0)
- Team has folded, not enough numbers. Some players have transfered to Fulton.

26. (25) Norkam Saints (0-0)
- Pundits were right, Norkam folds

Sands beat your projected spread for the game and they have been inconsistent? They have one loss against the number one team, that's it. Look at the score when Windsor played Carson, they didn't destroy them. You also rank Timberline high and Carson almost beat them. Carson is better than you think.

What effects the rankings the most? Say the team in 15th beats the team in 21st, will they be likely to move up at all?

Like any first year team, Sands makes some rookie mistakes. If they clean up the execution, they could be #1.

A 15th team beating a 21st team will result in mostly no gain as that is completely expected. If 21st beats 15th, the 15th team goes back, way back. Take Seaquam. They're expected to roll Aldergrove. If they win, they stay at 16. If they lose, they'll move down past 20.

BCSportFanatic's assessment of Sands is bang on. Although talented, they are prone to mistakes that are the result of lack of experience.

Sands is good, but not nearly as good as some people make them sound on this blog and the other forum. Windsor beat them soundly. Although Sands led at the half, Windsor scored 4 touchdowns in the second half. That immediately indicates inconsistency and breakdowns that are the result of lack of experience.

It seems that some people have become obsessed with Sands, almost to the point where it is unhealthy. As a result, a depiction of Sands has been created that they are some sort of all-star team that has been picked from the Fraser Valley. The way people describe Sands on the discussion board has become a seperate entity to itself, one seperate from the actual team. Really, some people are extraordinarily preoccupied with them, it is not healthy. I can alomst understand the preoccupation among the players. But for grown adults to be so obsessed that they frequent discussion forums to vent their anger, it's actually quite concerning.

I have no idea if Sands is guilty of the wild accusations (no, posts from these obsessed people on a web forum does not consistute evidence in my mind, sorry), but it appears that Sands has become the scapegoat for something that is more common that some would like to admit. You don't think that there are players that should have gone to Abbotsford Secondary but went to Mouat or Hansen Instead? How about students in Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge, or the Port Moody are that transferred to play at Pinetree, Terry Fox, or Centennial?

Sands is the convenient scapegoat because of their immediate success. If they were 1-4, no one would be complaining.

to be honest..i think seaquam should be ranked a little bit higher..maybe aroung the 13th or 14th position..they actually have a little bit of skill and have some good coaches..i dunno ..just a thought
