Week 5 AAA Power Rankings

Last updated Sep 25, 2005 Week 5

More surprises and movement. Salmon Arm big winner this week, moving up 5 spots into the top 10. New West continues to move up, now at #6. Big losers are Burnaby Central (drops 7), Mt Boucherie (drops 6), Fox (drops 4), Hansen (drops 2), and Pinetree (drops 2). Regular season starts in Week 5, this is where the games count towards playoffs, expect some more intensity.

1. (1) Vancouver College Fighting Irish (3-1)
- Not sure about Nooksack game, assumed they won. Expected to steamroll over West Van, could be closer than some think though. Also watch out for WJM who is threatening the #1 spot.

2. (2) WJ Mouat Hawks (4-0)
- Made quick work vs Timberline, will be there when it's all said and done. Regular season begins with North Delta, should be a cakewalk.

3. (3) Centennial Centaurs (2-2)
- Evened up their exhibition record with shutout win over Hansen. JV team could beat Pinetree this week, should be another blowout.

4. (5) STM Knights (2-1)
- Had week off, Cowichan game this week is basically another week off.

5. (4) Timberline Wolves (3-1)
- Couldn't stay with WJM, overrated as a top 5 team, will drop. Should beat an improving Carson team at home this week.

6. (9) New West Hyacks (2-2)
- Surprise team of the year, surprise players of the year in QB Davies and RB Drury. Soundly beat a decent South Kam team. Hansen won't be much of a contest this week.

7. (8) Notre Dame Jugglers (3-1)
- Improving over the lacklustre first 2 weeks with win over Holy Cross. Contending for #2 in West. Handsworth is up next, expected to win, needs it to stay as a playoff contender.

8. (10) North Delta Huskies (3-0)
- Seaquam wasn't much of a test. We'll see what the Huskies are made of with game this week vs WJ Mouat. Not expected to win, but staying close would be nice.

9. (13) Salmon Arm Golds (3-0)
- Undefeated so far, clearly underestimated. Expected to win Okanagan now. Kelowna up next, should be a walk in the park.

10. (6) Terry Fox Ravens (2-1)
- Beat South Delta, still searching for that explosive offense that was promised. Burnaby Central game is huge this week, need a win to stay in playoff contention.

11. (11) Handsworth Royals (3-0)
- Beat a bad Kelowna team, needs to get better quickly with regular season upon us. Huge game vs Notre Dame, need a win if Royals have any hopes of making playoffs.

12. (7) Mt. Boucherie Bears (2-1)
- Came up lame vs a surging Salmon Arm team. Will be in a dogfight with South Kam for #2 in OK. Good news is that Rutland is coming up this week.

13. (14) West Vancouver Highlanders (3-1)
- Has beaten weaker opponents, performed well so far. Biggest test so far vs VC. Matches up well, could surprise some here.

14. (12) Rick Hansen Hurricanes (1-3)
- Didn't stand a chance vs #3 Cent. New West much better right now, expected to lose to them this week. Falling down rankings quickly, could South Delta and Holy Cross be better??

15. (16) South Kamloops Titans (1-2)
- Flat vs New West, struggled to move the ball, pass coverage was also a major problem. Opens regular season vs Kelowna this week, should win easily.

16. (17) South Delta Sun Devils (1-3)
- Offense is still the main problem here losing to Fox. Winnable game vs Holy Cross coming up this week.

17. (20) Holy Cross Crusaders (0-3)
- Did better vs Notre Dame than they did vs STM. Both South Delta and Holy Cross looking for respect this week.

18. (19) Carson Graham Eagles (1-3)
- Did better vs AA Sands than expected, still lost though. Big game on the Island this week vs Timberline, may stay close.

19. (18) Pinetree T-Wolves (1-2)
- Clobbered by AA Barsby. #3 Cent coming this week, should be a rough ride.

20. (18) Kelowna Owls (1-3)
- Actually led Handsworth 14-0 near halftime, fell apart after though. South Kam isn't as good as last year, but will still lose to them this week.

21. (23) Rutland Voodoo (1-3)
- Shock Burnaby Central, moves out of basement.

22. (15) Burnaby Central Wildcats (0-3)
- Unbelievable lapse vs Rutland, hope it isn't a sign of things to come. Fox game is huge, big underdog though.

23. (22) Cowichan T-Birds (2-2)
- Has won 2 games in pre-season, too bad that's it for the season. Need a miracle vs STM.

I think Timberline should be behind New West and Notre Dame. Also, I think HC will be moving up in the weeks ahead.

Salmon Arm is picking up momentum. I think they will be the big surprise of Triple A!
