The 04/05 season was full of ups and downs for the WJ Mouat Hawks. They had all the talent in the world at QB and WR but their defense was suspect. There were big wins vs an outmatched Mt. Douglas team and North Delta, but there was also a key loss to division rival South Delta. The Hawks made the playoffs to face the mighty Vancouver College in the Quarterfinals. The Hawks matched up well despite their inexperience and battled to a tight 37-44 loss.

The next best thing to the Abbotsford Air Show in 04/05 was the air show put on by the Hawks. QB Jon Fortier lit up the skies with precisely thrown missiles to WRs Jason Dhaliwal and Matt Chapdelaine converting many into TDs. As Fortier was lighting up the skies, RB Bobby Rau kept defenses honest along the ground. On the other side of the ball, the defense was inconsistent and at times atrocious but when you score 30+ points a night, who needs a defense. As the saying goes "The best defense is a good offense".

The Hawks have many key returning and new players this year including WR Matt Chapdelaine, RB Bobby Rau, QB Austin Teer, TB/LB John Smeysters, G/DL Johnathan Robinson, and TE/DB Nick Sartori. Graduated are QB/LB Jon Fortier, WR Jason Dhaliwal, RB/LB Kevin Brar, G/DE Dustin Laakso and WR/DB Travis Bell. WR Matt Chapdelaine will replace Doerksen as the most feared receiver this year. There shouldn't be much of a dropoff at QB with Teer set to become the starting pivot. Smeysters is another interesting player, he adds another receiver/running back threat. I would not be surprised if the Hawks led the league in total yards offense and total points scored this year, they are that good. The defense should be better this year as well. Add a weaker division, returning Juniors, a good squad of rookies, and the Hawks should be much improved defensively and should be enough to let the offense do it's damage. Reports from the Big Kahuna 7-on-7 challenge were that the Hawks looked very fluid in the offense, and performed at a very high level.

The Hawks will win the Eastern Conference this year. They will average around 35+ points per game. This is a young group that will only get better over time. The 1 think the Hawks lack among the top contenders is playoff experience at the Varsity level, but that should change this year. The Hawks should get to at least the semis this year and could win it all next year.

Prognosis: 5-0 (Hawks take the East)
Key Games: Week 2, Fox vs WJM (offense vs offense); Week 7, WJM vs RH;
Top Offensive Players: QB Austin Teer, WR Matt Chapdelaine, RB/LB Bobby Rau, TB,LB John Smeysters
Top Defensive Players: TB,LB John Smeysters, G/DL Johnathan Robinson, TE/DB Nick Sartori
