The STM Knights have a long history of producing championship football teams, and the 04/05 team looked to defend their Title. The exploits of Knight's star RB Marek Seta, who led the league in Rushing last year and will be attending UMD (University Minnesota-Duluth) was well documented. The Knights were a perfect 5-0 in the regular season and were a favorite among most pundits to take the top trophy. But in a blowout game on a soggy wet day in Burnaby vs. lowly Burnaby Central, a bad luck play would doom them. Seta ended up spraining his knee, just weeks before the playoffs. Battered and bruised, the Knights battled but eventually relented in their Quarterfinal match against the streaking South Delta Sun Devils. Certainly not the way Seta and DesLauriers had envisioned their brilliant High School careers to end. No doubt tears were shed.

A new beginning beckons for the 05/06 version of the STM Knights. Yes, Seta is gone, but the returning players from last year have a bitter taste in their mouths and will be hungrier than ever for the Title. Couple that with last year's JV Champions, and the Knights will once again be a formidable foe for any opponent this season. Returning QB Jordan Scheltgen will put up solid numbers behind good protection and a speedy receiving core. Up and comer RB Desmond Singh from the JV squad is a masher and should pace the Knight's on the ground along with returning RB Nathan Pratrap. Singh excelled on all 3 teams he played last year, Varsity, JV, and Community. This is the year for Singh as "the man". A staple for Knights football is hard-nosed Defense, and this season should be no different. Defensively, DL Brandon Tuason and LB Desmond Singh will be wreaking havoc for opposing offenses.

A playoff spot for this squad is almost guaranteed. Where they finish in November is still unknown. If Desmond can fill in where Seta left off, if the Defense can dominate like they did last year, a deep playoff run is in the cards. And what of last year's starting QB for the Championship JV team Denny Dumas. Rumors are that Dumas will focus on Basketball this year. There are a lot of "ifs" for this Knight team, but one thing we know is that Coach Steele will have his boys prepared for battle each and every week.

Prognosis: 4-1 (Will lose a close one to Cent)
Key Games: Week 1, VC vs STM; Week 5 STM vs Cent; Week 7 Fox vs STM
Top Offensive Players: RB Desmond Singh, QB Jordan Scheltgen, QB Denny Dumas??
Top Defensive Players: DL Brandon Tuason, LB Desmond Singh

    Good write up
Only missing one thing the secret weapon Sam Carino. One of the best defensive players in BC. ALso, with the recent explusions then re-admittance to STM the team is geared to do what ever they have to win.

Good to know, will no doubt be watching for Carino.

The expulsions and re-admittance, if true, are disturbing to hear. Although , in this day and age, it's probably not very surprising to most. We're slowly inching to the American way, where competition and winning are more important than values and character.

What is ironic about it?? If you know something that I don't know, please tell...

You can't drop a line like that and leave out the juicy details...

Actually Desmond Singh didn't do anything at the Varsity level last year. And I think he will be a disappointment compared to the backs STM has had in the past.

Has anyone noticed he's the same size he was in grade 8, and his production has dropped every year. Makes you wanna go hmmmm

he may be the same size as grade 8 but hes still bigger than most of the guyz his age...especially at RB, and by the way, aj miko is the same size as grade 8 but u aint sayin nttn bout him, how come

actually, AJ has put on at least 20lbs since grade and has probably grown at least an inch. Oh yea, AJ is a natural running back...he's got some shake and bake and will make u miss. Don't see that in Desmond.

And you are right, Desmond is as big if not bigger then any other RB his age...unfortunately he'll be getting tackled by D-lineman and LBs who are in the 200lb to 250lb range

    Desmond will shock you...

Desmond will do fine. STM has a good QB and solid receivers which allows them to have a balanced attack. Should take the pressure off of Desmond, he doesn't have to be as shifty as AJ.

Centennial on the other hand is much more dependent on their RBs. Shut them down and they'll struggle to move the chains.

I'm sure Desmond will be a solid RB for STM, especially if they go to a balanced attack like you say.

I'm just saying I don't think he can handle the 30-35, sometimes 40 carries a game like the STM backs of the past.

Do you really think he can be put in the same category of Seta, McCarty and Cornish???

Desmond is entering Gr.11 last time i checked Cornish wasnt that great in gr.11 nor marek. we will have to wait and see. If there is a balanced attack like I'm hearing then yes desmond will have room if its conventional stm desmond will have the door shut on his face.
