"The Little Team that Could..."

Starting the 04/05 season as unranked, the Sun Devils quickly moved up the standings and ranked #3 by the time the playoffs started. And they did not disappoint going all the way to the Semifinals. A big pre-season win over Handsworth starting things going and the Sun Devils never looked back. A key win over WJ Mouat propelled the team to a 4-1 regular season and went on to play 3 tough playoff games with 2 hard earned victories over Carson Graham and STM. Offensively, QB Derek Mann was playing target practice all season long with WRs Brody Toigo and Mark Hobbs. Complimenting the air attack was All-Star RB Josh Parks. The defense wasn't great, but was good enough to allow the offense to win games. The anchors on defense were G/LB Chris Krembenios, LB/RB Mark Hallgrimson and T/DT Alex Antonio.

The Sun Devils graduated many of the key players that got them to the Semifinals last year including QB Derek Mann, WRs Brody Toigo and Matt Helferty, S Mark Hobbs, G/LB Chris Krembenios, T/DT Alex Antonio, and the whole starting O-line. Filling those shoes offensively will be RB Josh Parks shifting to starting QB this year. Watch out for returning reciever WR Harper Price-Brown as Parks' main target. Returning LB Mark Hallgrimson will captain the defensive unit. The Sun Devils do not have a JV program but several new players should have an impact this season including Danny Bowes, James Parkinson, Mike Tyson and Justis Price-Brown. The team performed below expectations at the Big Kahuna 7-on-7 Challenge this summer. However, in their first game, the Sun Devils did stay with the 4A Championship squad from Washington State before losing it on the last play.

After their surprising run last year, the Sun Devils are in for a rebuilding year this year. As Coach Higgins sees it, the biggest Challenge this year will be to replace the loss of the whole offensive line. A tall order no question. The season could very well come down to a Saturday afternoon vs North Delta in Week 9 for a playoff berth.

Prognosis: 2-3 (Week 9 could determine the 3rd final playoff spot)
Key Games: Week 6, RH vs SD; Week 9, ND vs SD
Top Offensive Players: QB/RB Josh Parks, WR/CB Harper Price-Brown
Top Defensive Players: LB/RB Mark Hallgrimson
