Where do we even begin to recap the year that was for the Rick Hansen Hurricanes who completed their magical journey in style with the AAA Championship banner in 04/05. The Hurricanes dominated their Conference opponents scoring at will and shutting down opposing offenses. AAA MVP and multi-sport All-Star WR/DE Jacob Doerksen led the way offensively and defensively. In a dazzling display of pure athleticism, power, and speed, Doerksen could be found everywhere the ball was. Not to be outdone on offense were RB Kyle Daley who led a steady ground game and was considered among the elite backs in the province and QB Ryan Gill who threw all those bombs to Doerksen. Both O-Line and D-Line were big and strong and demoralized their opponents game after game. As dominate as they were in the regular season, the Playoffs were anything but easy. Hard fought wins over Terry Fox, Handsworth, and a thrilling comeback victory over Vancouver College in the final capped the wonderful year. Certainly a fantasic finish and a historic year for the Hurricanes.

As the season begins, the defending champs will look nothing like the team that walked off as champions last year. More than half of that team has graduated and the look of this years team will be completely different. But the future does look bright and promising. As the Varsity team was busy making history, the JV team (ya, that other team), was busy making a little history themselves going all the way to the JV Finals. It will be interesting to see exactly how the makeup of this team will look. At pivot, rookie QB Richard Konschuh will most likely start with last year's backup RB Richard Quach getting most of the carries. Rookie RB Colter Wright was solid at JV and could share the handoffs with Quach. Look for TE Bryce Owen and WRs Bryce Wordon and Steve Arnold to make most of the catches. Defensively, several JV standout LBs will move up the big team including Steve Arnold and Jake McKinnon. Most of last year's Lineman are gone, which means a new O-Line and D-Line made up of mostly rookies and leftover Juniors.

With all the departures of talent such as Doerksen, Daley, Gill, Kriegl, and Dodd among others, defending the championship is more a dream than reality. However, looking past the Hurricanes could get a team burned. Most of the rookies have been playing football and playing together for a long time. It's difficult to judge exactly how well the Hurricanes will do, they could finish anywhere between 2-3 to 4-1. All depending on the chemistry of the team and how they perform versus older more experienced teams. The Hurricanes have an experience core coaching staff returning to work with this young team, if they get in the playoffs and gain some confidence, they could do some damage.

Prognosis: 4-1 (loss coming vs WJM)
Key Games: week 4, RH vs Cent; Week 6, RH vs SD; Week 8, RH vs ND
Top Offensive Players: QB Richard Konschuh, RB Richard Quach
Top Defensive Players: LB Steve Arnold, LB Jake McKinnon
