The North Delta Huskies were an Even-Steven team last year. Good enough to beat Holy Cross and Mt. Doug, but not nearly good enough vs WJ Mouat, South Delta, and Rick Hansen. They finished 2-3 and did not qualify for the playoffs. The team was led offensively by the multi-sport athlete RB Marcus Montanari, All-Stars QB Mervan Skrijelj and OL Micha Govorchin. The defense core included 3 year veteran and Provincial All-star DE Kurt Mackenzie, LB Kyle Greenwood, and QB/DB Mervan Skrijelj. On the good days (vs weaker teams), the team executed well on offense and shutdown their opponents down. On the bad days (vs strong teams), the offense sputtered and the defense had big numbers posted against them. A classic example of not enough talent at the skilled positions.

The Huskies are a team that returns many players at the key positions. QB Skrijelj will be back for another season, so will RB Marcus Montanari and OL/DL Micha Govorchin. However, the team loses Captains on the Defense in Kurt Mackenzie and Kyle Greenwood to graduation. Overall, the Huskies are expected to be more competitive offensively and defensively in a weaker Eastern Conference. Although the Huskies do not have a JV team, they do have a good feeder program in North Delta Minor Football which fielded successful Midget and Bantam teams in the VMFL.

The Huskies aren't showing up on most people's radar screens. The focus of attention to begin the season will be on defending Champs Rick Hansen, South Delta, and WJ Mouat. The Huskies did not compete in any spring ball and had limited practices this Spring/Summer with many players playing Rugby last spring. If South Delta was the suprise team of last year, North Delta could be the surprise team of this year. A solid core of returning players and some possible additions from Community ball could see the Huskies making a move up this year.

A coaching addition of note is 13 year veteran Coach Brian McGill who will be returning to the sidelines as the Receivers/DBs Coach after a 2 year break.

Prognosis: 3-2 (good enough to make the playoffs this time)
Key Games: Week 7, RH vs ND; Week 8, ND vs SD
Top Offensive Players: QB/DB Mervan Skrijelj, RB Marcus Montanari
Top Defensive Players: QB/DB Mervan Skrijelj, OL/DL Micha Govorchin
