The upstart New West Hyacks are the new kid on the block. After a relatively successful 2 startup years in AA, the grace period is over and the Hyacks will join the big boys in AAA for 05/06. The Hyacks went 5-2 last year in AA and made it to their first Quarterfinal Playoffs ever losing to the Sentinel Spartans who would end up going to the AA Championship finals. Offensively, the Hyacks were led by AA Player of the year QB/DB Ingram Jaccard. The receiving core of WRs Tyler Lanz, Marc Moore, Esmat Sarwary and RB Tuangkitkun made plays for Jaccard. The running game was executed by RB Mike Tuangkitkun who was one of the top backs in all of AA. Defensively, the team was sound and ranked in the upper half of the league. LBs Max Tchikichev, Skyler Davis and DB Ingram Jaccard led the Hyacks in tackles.

The Key members of last year's team that have left include QB Ingram Jaccard, RB Mike Tuangkitkun, LB Max Tchikichev, and DB/WR/P Tyler Lanz. The good news is that backup QB Ben Davies will start at pivot this year. More good news, the receiving core of WRs Marc Moore, Esmat Sarwary will also be back. That's where the good news ends, as there doesn't appear to be a suitable RB replacement for Tuangkitkun and the defense appears softer. Having said that, the Hyacks performed quite well at the Big Kahuna 7-on-7 challenge this summer, winning the consolation round. The team also attended the Sedro Woolley Team Camp in Washington State and performed at a high level.

Coach Lalji has done a fine job creating this program from the ground up with lots of support from the school and the community. Jason Claremont, the CFL All-star will be on the sidelines for the Hyacks this year working with the Receivers, no doubt Coach Lalji used his noteriety as a TSN analyst to swing that deal. With all this in mind, how will the Hyacks do this year?? Frankly, AAA is a major step up from AA. And with some of the key players gone from last years team, I see only 1 game the Hyacks have a realistic shot of winning. Even so, the program is making steady strides and I like what Coach Lalji has done so far. It's only a matter of time before the Wins start piling up.

Prognosis: 1-4 (They should be able to beat HC)
Key Games: Week 8, NW vs HC
Top Offensive Players: QB Ben Davies, WR Marc Moore, WR Esmat Sarwary
Top Defensive Players: LB Skyler Davis, DB Esmat Sarwary
