Frustrated, Betrayed, Ignored...
I've been steadily getting emails about the Strike situation and the Football Season that is slowly slipping away. I've included an excerpt from one email that I received that sums up a lot of the frustration and lack of communication going on. Hopefully I can do my small part in getting the information out there,
As parents we have been given absolutely no information from BCHSFA or BCSS. We have not heard one word from our coaching staff either, leaving these impressionable student athletes frustrated beyond words.
I have always taught my sons to have a plan B in their back pockets. My son was talked out of re-joining community football last month while he was still able to do so. He was told by the highschool coaches that the union had agreed "extra curricular activities would in no way be affected by this strike."
Betrayal and lack of trust are not positive virtues that come to mind when talking about a team sport such as football. Defying a B.C. Supreme Court order is also not an act that we should be supporting in front of adolescent males, I don't care how unjust they feel the laws are. The message is wrong. I wish the BCHSFA could see the damage being done. There is more at stake here than just a few lost weeks of ball playing.
I am trying everyday to find a positive and a life lesson here. I have always said, "stand up for what you believe in...as long as it's moral and legal." I have also always warned about "following blindly like sheep."
There is also much confusion about the topic of practicing. Many teams we have learned have carried on, despite being told not to. Again, doing what they believe is right, despite what the rules are. Our boys tried to organise a "captain's practice" the other day, and will try it again this week.
The boys are all clinging to the hope that the season will soon get underway, regardless of the job action. Or is the contingency plan put in place, only if the job action ends? Still confused about this.
Please continue to keep us all enlightened. The team, my son, they have worked so hard to build something from scratch. I don't want to see the great momentum that highschool football was building, slip that slippery slope.
"The justification for football is that it provides in the broadest sense a learning experience for those who play it; therefore, the game belongs essentially to the players."

All teams that choose to practice against should be disqualified from playoffs

Even though I think we should be allowed to practice... its just not fair for a team that is not practicing following the rules to play a team that said F**k it and practice.

I totally agree with the moms letter. This is so unfair to all the football players that were looking forward to the playoffs. Why doesn't someone stop this. How can they go back on their word about it not affecting sports? The poor grade 12's, what a way to leave highschool...not fair at all.

on my son's team a few joined community ball. i looked into this and was told the roster was frozen, he then asked who my son was and attempted to talk me into him joining next year. the high school coaches told us not join community, so we didn't. my son's friend come over and they still believe that the coaches would never screw them. i suppose with youth come idealism.

community should of made some changes or been ready for this change, it would of only benefited them

nothing can stop you from having a group of friends together and heck why not pass a football. Its the same thing as playing Xbox is it not? hahaha they cant control what you do on your spare time. If you were to use your schools pads and field thats a big different but at a public field with friends soccer ball, football, or a game of road hockey they cannot choose what you choose to spend ur time on

"Organized practices" at a school field with equipment should not be allowed for any school pub/priv rules are rules. But nothing can stop some friends getting together to mess around

Well done...ALL OF YOU!
I'm sure all of your coaches have volunteered hundreds of unpaid hours coaching you and have lost over $1000 dollars of pay during the past two weeks and have fallen behind on family bill payments to "screw you" and your childrens seasons over.
It is hard to inform you of when football games are when you can't inform your bank when you can pay your mortgage. With players and parents like this perhaps school sports should be cancelled.
I know you are feeling frustrated. Try to remember who your coach is, and what he gets from coaching you and the countless other teams he has coached over the years
